Voice4Teams connects your **8x8 PBX** to your **Microsoft 365 tenant**, allowing users to use Microsoft Teams as the calling client for their 8x8 service.

The initial setup starts from the **8x8 Admin Console**. Once you have authorised the connection to Microsoft 365, the remaining setup and migration process is handled automatically.

You do not need to sign in to Callroute or manually start the migration.

## How the setup works

### 1. Start Voice4Teams from 8x8

Voice4Teams onboarding is initiated from the **8x8 Admin Console**.

8x8 and Callroute create the underlying Voice4Teams service and prepare it for connection to your Microsoft 365 tenant.

### 2. Connect Microsoft 365

From the 8x8 Admin Console, you will be asked to authorise the connection between Voice4Teams and your Microsoft 365 tenant.

The Microsoft 365 administrator completing the authorisation must have the required Microsoft administrator permissions.

See **[Connect Microsoft 365](https://callroute.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CKB/pages/2632515589)**.

### 3. Microsoft 365 synchronisation

Once authorisation is complete, Callroute synchronises the Microsoft 365 information required to configure Voice4Teams.

By default, Callroute synchronises Microsoft Teams voice users.

See **[Microsoft 365 user synchronisation](https://callroute.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CKB/pages/2633695233)**.

### 4. Existing Voice4Teams users are migrated automatically

If your organisation is moving from the legacy Voice4Teams service, Callroute automatically identifies and validates your existing Voice4Teams users.

Once the required checks have completed successfully, migration follows automatically.

Migration is performed as a **whole-tenant cutover**. You do not need to select users, sign in to Callroute or manually start any migration stages.

During the cutover, Callroute applies the required Microsoft Teams configuration and enables the new Callroute-powered connection to your 8x8 service.

Once migration has completed successfully, registration through the legacy Voice4Teams service is disabled to prevent calls being presented through both services.

The legacy configuration is retained so that the service can be rolled back if required.

See **[Migrate from legacy Voice4Teams](https://callroute.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CKB/pages/2633465862)**.

### 5. Access Callroute

Access to the Callroute portal is not required to complete the initial setup or migration.

Once your Voice4Teams service has been migrated, you may be invited to the Callroute portal to view and administer your service.

See **[Access Callroute](https://callroute.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CKB/pages/2632286214)**.

## Microsoft 365 administrator permissions

The initial Microsoft 365 authorisation requires the administrator completing the connection to have the following roles:

- **Teams Administrator**
- **Domain Name Administrator**
- **User Administrator**
- **Application Administrator**

A **Global Administrator** has the required permissions, but Global Administrator is not specifically required.

These elevated permissions are required to establish and authorise the initial connection. They are not all required for normal day-to-day operation.

For a detailed explanation of the Microsoft Graph permissions used by Callroute, see: **[Microsoft Permissions Deep Dive](https://help.callroute.com/space/CKB/860192770/Microsoft+Permissions+Deep+Dive)**

## Voice4Teams licensing

Your Voice4Teams service provides access to the Callroute functionality required to connect your 8x8 service to Microsoft Teams.

Callroute also provides broader Microsoft Teams voice management and voice orchestration capabilities. Some of these features may be visible within the portal but require additional licensing before they can be used.

See **[Extend Voice4Teams with Callroute](https://callroute.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CKB/pages/2633728049)** to learn more about the additional capabilities available, or contact **8x8** to discuss licensing.
